The Death Penalty
How would you feel, if you found out that the killer of your beloved family was allowed to walk away with only a few years in jail, knowing that he could probably get out early?
The feeling of hate, disgust and most importantly anger begin to cloud your mind as you put a frown on your face and walk away quietly. Due to recent figures showing the increase in crime many people have started the old feud of whether or not we should bring back the death penalty.
Americans have consistently supported capital punishment by a 2 to 1 ratio in murder cases, and they are wise to do so, as this reduces crime rates and gives assurance to families, that they will get their justice.
Many people believe that killing someone for a crime is immoral and inhumane however consider the consequences of them being put in jail. The first thing is that the prisoner most likely would not be completing their whole sentence. It has happened on more than one occasion that the criminal was let out early due to the lack of spaces available. Also under any rare circumstance that the prisoner completes his or her sentence, they would be free to do whatever they wish to do. Sometimes the victims are not even made aware of the fact that their perpetrator is free again. In the shocking case of the black cab rapist John Worboys, one victim claims that she was not made aware of his release, and had found out about this from the radio.
People do not deserve to live after the atrocious acts they commit. “An eye for an eye “is a popular saying that many have heard of and unsurprisingly many people have controversial views about this, with some even changing this historic phrase to “An eye for an eye would make the whole world blind”, however this is not necessarily true. If you murder someone than yes you should be charged with the death penalty for taking a life however things like shoplifting and other petty crimes do not have to be included.
There are many other punishments and they are effective however some people may never learn and the best thing we can do to prevent further damage is to be rid of them.
There are cases where somebody for shop lifting gets convicted and this stays on the record even after they have paid for their crime. Some people may prefer death over a miserable life. Imagine living a life knowing your family is ashamed of you. You won't be able to go to your corner shop without someone pointing you out, or turning their head away. This would then lead to depression and will most likely end in suicide or more crime.
Isn't it about time we dealt with London's rising crime incidents and murders?
